I clicked on the dot for Khartoum, the only one in Sudan. It shows the Nile in Egypt, related to a movie that plays (only) in Egypt. A bit disappointing.

Very cool, I've sent a couple of Star Wars fans out to Achill Island off the coast of Kerry as the location for the last Jedi. However due to very small footprint of the island and my zoom level another film was higher in the z-order, blocking out the other film pins, and it looked like there might be missing data.

That all said, it looks like they also filmed closer to my home which I probably would never have known about if not for this service. Nice work, nice design, slick UX and Interaction model. Well done!

Thanks! I also did not know that I have passed Star Wars location with train (Finse) before. I live in Norway so got exited to learn that. Usually nothing happens here.

Kick ass, I really love this idea! It can bring a little bit of fun to wherever one travels :). Definitely several scenes I didn't realize I'll have to look out for on my regular work trips!

If I were to put in one feature request I'd say "a way to easily get to a page about the media". E.g. if I go to Cheyenne I see there was a TV show named Jericho and there are buttons/links which take me to pages about where this data came from, all of the locations it was filmed, the place itself on Wikipedia, and so on - but I have to initiate a manual search to find out anything about Jericho.

Or maybe there is a link already and I'm just an idiot :D.

I have only gotten the link to Wikipedia page for the item, but not the place. That should be possible to put in later where there is a button for item and a button for the destination itself.

Fun map. First local landmark I look up is Niers Tavern in Woodhaven, NYC. Famous for the scene in Goodfellas after the heist and a scene in Tower Heist which I have not seen. Good wings, burgers and chicken sandwich.

Nice work - the map UI is smooth and easy, sites are surprisingly accurate for single scenes. Can you partner with another database to really bulk this up? Possibly even grow it a little more with crowd-sourcing with verification. More notes about the scenes within the movie would be handy. Fan notes and threads could be a horrible idea I'd like to see. : ) I could see this being a good resource for scouts, fans, and others. I'd be down to help on this!

      Thanks a lot!

I try to rely mostly on Wikipedia because I do not want this project to be associated with an another AI project. What I am doing with my projects are using Wikipedia information to tell a fun story on my interactive maps. Something like a video game, because I am a gamer myself.

I am considering other databases, although I have to learn more about the licensing conditions. I have experience with using some sort of verification system from an another project of mine.

For now I have been just looking for feedback on this project on forums and scooping them up. Usually it is because I have not been parsing Wikipedia well enough.

Nice interface (though the cursor/pins feel very fidgety) to scraped data.

Not very satisfying when you can't compare photos of the location with the on-screen version.

Thanks! I have thought about how to put "compare photos of the location with the on-screen version" on the map. Have not just found out how yet.

Would love to add that because that would have been so cool!

This is neat, but when I looked for some specific filming locations (as opposed to a city-level listing), I didn't find much. Obviously, creating a precise filming location database is an order-of-magnitude harder problem to solve.

Thanks! I am aware of this problem because I have not been able to parse the information well enough. Therefore, some might even be in a country level while it is known that the scene happened in a very specific location.

What's the tooling for this? I've wanted to do a similar map project for a different dataset and this is a slick presentation.

It's tailwind, react, maplibre based on the sources.
